Applied Engineering was founded in 1983 by David M. Carter and Jeffrey C. Barker to provide complete Structural Engineering services to the central coast area. Our projects range from custom single family residences to large institutional, commercial and industrial buildings to highway bridges. We also provide construction design services to contractors for bridge falsework, excavation and construction shoring, structure retrofit projects, and cost reduction incentive projects. In January of 1990, our firm was incorporated under the name BC Squared doing business as Applied Engineering. Our services are secured with professional liability insurance.

Bridges & Falsework |
Bridge Design: Type Selection, Complete Structural Plans and Specifications Falsework Design: Optimized for materials on hand. Staged Construction over traffic and railroads. Steel and timber shoring.
We have Structural Engineering experience on hundreds of structures subject to oversight by US Airforce, Army Corps of Engineers, FEMA, OSHPD, DSA, Counties, Municipalities, and other agencies.
Applied Engineering produces all engineering drawings entirely with our CAD system. Completed drawings are generally ink on vellum or mylar, and produce extremely clear prints. In addition, most structural calculations are performed using an interactive structural analysis and design package. The resulting calculations clearly identify all numeric values with units, and are suitable for submission to building agencies with a minimum of hand calculations. This integrated structural engineering system results in very clear and complete construction documents which can be revised to suit changing client's needs with a minimum of effort and time.
